From the booklet published in 1967 by the women of St. Stephen's Church, funded by Marguerite du Pont de Villiers Boden: Mr. Cruikshank built the house from bricks made on the farm. An earlier farm house had stood near the river where in 1967 the owners Mrs. and Mrs. Robert H. Cook of Miami Florida built an attractive ranch home overlooking part of their mile-long shore line on the Sassasfras River. The property in 1967 contained 465 acres of choice farm land. It is said that when the stately three-story, 16-room, three-hall brick house was under construction, there was discussion as to a change of name for the farm. A governess suggested that as there were so many young ladies in the family, the farm's name should be changed to "Bloomingdale." And so it was, and so it is.
