Sheffield

• 1835 - Sheffield, 600 acres, was offered to Sidney George Fisher by old Mr. Ward (William Ward (82) “Fourth of Woodlawn”) for $5,000 in about 1835. Fisher’s mother sold it 20 years before that for $1,500. It could not be bought now (1838) for $10,000.

• 1838 - Owned by Thomas Veazey Ward and his wife Mary Thompson McLane.

• 1867 - In 1867 Rose Hill is sold to Thomas Veazey Ward of "Woodlawn" and his wife Mary Thompson McLane. Thomas ("Young Tom") already owned the large tract of land, "Sheffield" (600 acres which had been part of Mount Harmon that he bought from Ann Eliza George Fisher, after her "swap" of her land with her half sister, Phoebe Loutit George, the heiress of Mount Harmon).
