Swan Harbor

was patented to the Earle family in the 17th century. Tradition has it that the name derives from the fact that for many years flocks of swan used the quiet coves in the creek during their migration to the North. The Earles were parishoners of St. Stephen's Parish and their burial plot can be seen in the cemetery.

From the booklet published in 1967 by the women of St. Stephen's Church, funded by Marguerite du Pont de Villiers Boden:
The farmhouse is white clapboard and stands back from the road in a grove of trees. The spread and girth of a magnificent beech tree indicates its great age. There is no date on the house, but th H and L hinges and brass door knobs indicate that it was built about 1767. The swinging staircase in the hall must have been built by skilled English workmen. Philip Thomas bought the farm in 1821 and through him it passed to the Clark family who owned and operated it through succeeding generations. In 1967, Swan Harbor was still occupied by members of the Clark family.
